Identity is the what all humanity
strives for. Whether you desire to stand out from the
crowd, or to just be one of the group - identity is
what defines who you are. Corporate America spends billions
of dollars a year making sure you identify with their
product. Logos are imprinted on everything around you
so that they are instantly recognizable to the average
Joe on the street - Coca-Cola, AT&T, Nike, McDonald's,
etc. It is a serious business that is not to be taken
lightly. It is easy to take for granted how powerful
a logo can be, or just where it came from to begin with.
Really look at the CBS logo next time you watch TV and
consider what it represents to you.
Designing logos and identity for a project is tough
task. The ability to convey so much with one single
design element, is why I truly enjoy logo design. Maintaining
the mark is even tougher. Strict guidelines are drawn
up in order to maintain the integrity of the mark. I
have a great appreciation for working with other designer's
art, because I know the thought and care that went into
the creation of a mark.
